Was launched in the Berger & Mar shipyards in 1958. over 5 year period were the built 8 of them. In 1963 one of them was torpedoed several times and sank after the crew had been fighting for 24 hours to keep her afloat. they lost over 800 lives that day. that submarine that sank her were chased for days by five of the escort destroyers.
