To me also a single shaft would have been odd (but it was an ottoman design.....). Maybe i should try a singleshaft variant.
In addition i'm quite sure i've found contradictory sources that give it twin shaft, althought i can't find it for now.
I'll check it back Home...........

PS: it seems that the two informations are right:
Hudavendigar would get twin shaft when redesigned during construction.

-Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but here is a design I did a few weeks ago. She weighs in at 6-7 thousand tons, is armed with a main battery of 2 x 6-inch guns and 8 x 4.7-inch guns, a belt of 3-inches (76mm) and 4 x 18-inch torpedo tubes. Speed is somewhere in the range of 22-24 knots, with a pair of vertical triple expansion engines and coal fired cylindrical boilers serving two shafts.

Here is the Hüdâvendigâr as design when laid down in 1892. I will detail the background of my alternate ottoman navy latter (…….one day…….maybe :D ), but for now:

When laid down the Hüdâvendigâr was a very obsolate design with a single screw and a full barque rigging with three masts for auxiliary sail propulsion. Work proceeded very slowly until a major redesign was decided. The ship was finally commissioned in 1896 with military masts, increased steam power and twin screw.

Hi, Regia Marina:

Nice cruiser! Your belt is very intresting for a cruiser of that shape (looks as a protected -by deck armour- cruiser, and its armament is similar, but at 7-6000 tons, is clearly heavier). Once again, it has a "flavor" of an italian protected cruiser before WWI. Cheers.

Aesthetically, at least for me, your single screw version of Hudavendigar looks very well, with very pleasent lines, and with sail mast and only two funnels, it has a definitive vintage scent of the belle epoque. Cheers.

Thanks, reytuerto! It is based on contemporary cruisers, namely Ottoman ships and the Italian Libia-class cruisers.

Do you know? With the armoured belt, an uniform 6 inch battery, some 533 mm torpedo tubes over the flotation line... and turbines with fuel fired boilers, your cruiser can compete with WWI RN era light cruisers.

Yes, it very well could, but the design criteria for this challenge prevents such things. Also during the AU scenario this cruiser is from, the admiralty is yet unconvinced of the benefits of turbines and thus opts for vertical triple expansion engines and coal fired boilers, due to ease of maintenance and reliability over early turbines.
