Hello again

Evstafiy-class battleships

These two vessels were three-quarter sisters of Potemkin-Tavrisheskiy, featuring the same size, protection and speed. The most important change was the replacement of the forecastle-deck level 152mm guns with casemated 203mm pieces and the replacement of Potemkin's heavy conical foremast with a much thinner one. They took over six years to complete and were commissioned in 1911 without fighting tops and a very austere bridge.

[ img ]

Both were frequently employed agains the Ottoman navy and received the usual upgrades: The charthouse was removed entirely, the tertiary battery was cut to four 75mm pieces, and two HA guns (imported 40mm pompoms) came on board.

[ img ]

Both were captured by the Germans in May 1918, by the Brits in November 1918, by the Reds in April 1919, by the Whites in June 1919 and again by the Reds in November 1920; each owner demolished them a little bit more until they were quite beyond repair and were scrapped in 1922 and 1923, respectively.

Greetings
GD
