Design Study II/30
When Admiral Zenker took over the German Navy in 1924, the design works were revived and once again the question was: Monitor, Battleship or Cruiser? By this time, the engine type was switched to diesel. Notable about all the following design studies was therefore the missing or rather small funnel. Design Study II/30 was of the battleship type, with six 305mm guns in three twin turrets. Flak caliber was increased to 105mm in single mounts. Those familiar with German cruiser designs will recognize the turret layout, as the two aft turrets were both off-center to increase the firing arc. The navy was once again unsure which design type to choose, as was there uncertainty about the gun caliber: Whether or not the allies aould allow anything about 280mm wasn't clear.
