I honestly do hear and understand what you are saying Naixoterk, but I respectfully think we would have to agree to disagree.

Had the USA been the original aggressor and attacked Canada without justification, I think the outrage would have been felt in all levels of society. In 1918/19 the British were, as you suggest, very war-weary, but whilst the British were engaged in the Great War, and immediately after, the Suffragette movement dissipated as Women took over the work in the factories and down the mines and in 1918, Women were enfranchised under the Representation of the People Act, 1918.

With regards to political unrest and the rise of extreme political parties, this simply did not happen. The British People as a whole are not very politically motivated, and whilst membership to both fascist and communist/socialist movements did increase, their numbers were still insignificant.

That said, a lot of families here in Britain had relatives in the America’s (IRL, both in the US and Canada), coupled with the feeling of being stabbed in the back by a one time friend and neighbour, would I believe had led to so much outrage, that Britain may not even have waited for the war in Europe to cease before counter attacking and pressing home the advantage in the winter of 1915.

Whether or not the USA was a bone-fide Central Power, Britain would not have seen a difference. The USA was the attacker, so the British would just see the war in the America’s as another front in the Great War, and would have made resources available to their brethren in Canada. No reasonable person can expect Canadians to fight for their motherland if when, Canada is attacked, the motherland does nothing to help. How can one expect Canadian troops to fight in Europe, if their homes in Canada are being attacked and whilst Britain and her Empire stood idly by?

Of course this would have had a knock on effect to the whole war effort. Instead of sending the ANZAC’s to fight in Churchill’s ill-fated expedition to Gallipoli, maybe they would have been sent to Canada instead?

Without opening that 2nd front in Gallipoli (diverting German, Austro-Hungarian and Turkish troops from other theatres), perhaps the Czarist forces would have fared worse (or better, if you include the Russian Winter effect)? Who knows?

But, it’s your AU, so we’ll just have to agree to disagree over this point.

Indeed, we are in disagreement.

I had not the intention of creating any new AU, i just repainted one airplane for fun and it all ended in the "thoughts" of a new AU line.

I think that, effectively, both of us are right. We are talking about historical events that didn't happen and could've happen, since we have not introduced any paranormal elements like alien invasions, undead people... and so on.

In the end, when we are talking about such events, we are analyzing some aspects of the human behaviour, and if there's something that characterise it is the unexpectation.

That said, i'll keep drawing/repainting confederate airplanes but i won't write any background history. I prefer to dedicate that time to historical airplanes (like the ones in my signature).

These are very interesting and some of the best CSA what-ifs I've seen (especially the Hunter - looks fab!).

I agree with Naixoterk, I often have excellent AU ideas but the backstory is just improbable or I'm never happy with it. So I feel that a loose collection of AU drawings is all that is required with some label but leaving enough to the imagination of the viewer. Too many AUs here start with ultra long-winded stories and fluff and only a handful have ever worked well and most seem to get rebooted at some point. I'd just rather see some interesting art and ideas than worry too much about the backstory.

Great work with the drawings, and interesting idea for an AU, although with number of serious issues, that were mostly already mentioned.

On a note, I guess it's worth mentioning, that potential war with USA was a major element of Canadian war planning until around 1930s (after all, except for expeditionary operations they didn't had many other options to prepare for ) - and these plans generally involved assumption of heavy British participation (rather obviously, considering then-political/administrative relationship between Canada and GB).

It's definitely neither time nor place for in-depth discussions about it, but saying that slavery was the question that created the CSA in the first place is actually an oversimplification. Core of the question was the issue of states' rights vs. powers of federal government - and while imposition of slavery was indeed one of these rights, very notorious (and therefore very convenient to use in propaganda) and very important to southern economy, but it wasn't the slavery only and in itself that caused the secession.
