The P-80 had the same wings. Otherwise there are no other similarities.

The wing is the most important (and therefore limiting) aerodynamic feature of the aircraft though (it is the thing that lets it fly in the first place, after all!) It's not swept back, it's a solidly subsonic airfoil section ( NACA 65-213, incidentally the same that's used on the XP-81) and there's no area ruling so it wasn't going to have the same performance as, say, a MiG-15 let alone being able to sustain supersonic speeds.

Oh, and wings blended into the fuselage isn't necessarily a very aerodynamically useful thing - if you don't know what you're doing you're just making a lot of induced drag. By the time the B-1A rolled out we had enough computer processing power to figure out what exactly was happening.

True. But neither the MiG-15/17 or F-86 were made to go supersonic either.

Apparently some have made that claim, but I'm interested in knowing what your sources were, just curious.

It's also worth noting that the L-1000 engine didn't work. The J37 was essentially a brand new engine, with rather less performance than the L-1000 was supposed to have.

The Dassault Mercure was a failure mostly because of its short range; at full load, it could only cover 1.700 km, less than half the B737's range, and nowhere near enough for the American market. Dassault was developing an improved version with high bypass turbofans and bigger tanks for longer range, but ran out of cash as the development process dragged on.

Nice work with the Mercure, GD!

Here's an update to the Fairchild Dornier 528 / 728 / 928 Jet Family using my 728, with GD doing the shrinking and stretching and with a more tidy windshield. There are a few minor corrections from the drawing in the FD AU thread (primarily to the 528), and the addition of landing gear for those of you who wish to use it.
