Walter Lord has an account in his book on Midway and its a whoot. It says a lot about how tough the B-26 was with 500 25mm holes in it

Seeker,
Sounds like the quote I'm after!

I used to know several B-26 airmen. Hell of a group. Running out of those guys fast.

The same thing can be said of the P-47. I recall a story told to me about a wounded P-47 that was slowly trudging back to base, when some German fighters came upon it. Even after they attacked it, it kept flying and landed safely. After checking it out, they recorded around some 600 bullet holes in the fuselage and wings and that plane just kept flying.

I do not know about the validity of that story, but nonetheless, it does pay tribute to how tough some of these aircraft were.
