however, you loose redundancy in machinery..... if something breaks, you are dead in the water. there are navies which did not want single propeller plants for exactly this reason, the dutch being one of them. (this is however postwar, I got to admit, and I have no facts about this pre-war, and in-war and directly after we operated DE's which were of course single-shafted)

I am not saying it is an bad idea to switch to single shaft, I am saying however that an double shaft design is acceptable as well.

also, colo? I think you are refering to syzmo, bezo?

Ahhh...*LOL* yes, thanks ace. I'm at work, working with kids, so didn't paid attention.

*Scratching feet in humility*

Colo, I apologize for having inadvertently pointed a finger at you. Of course you would know these things, being the acclaimed USN-guy here! Hope you accept my apology.

ace, you're right about the perceived loss of redundancy, but as it would be, a ship like this would be a cheap, mass-produced vessel (at least six or eight built). So you want to keep costs down, and also simplify the running and maintenance of the ship.

Heck, Navarchos! Give us two versions! one with two shafts (opps, you already did that!) and one with a single shaft!

Woohoo! I got mistaken for Colosseum! Now I've made the big time!

Thanks for pointing out the porthole mistake Bezo, I'm used to seeing battle port cover that open up, not down. Still a very nice detail to add.

I don't even know what you guys are talking about. ;) My area of expertise is basically limited to USN surface combatants 1942-1945. ;)

Oh, don't worry, colo. just a case of dumb mistaken identity. I cannot for the love of what's good, understand how I could even imagine Syzmo's star-symbol being colo's. I guess it's that North Point Star that confused me....ahh, getting old here... 8-) ;)

It appears to be a steam ship, in which case gear-cutting would be a major mobilization constraint. This would indicate a preference for a single screw. If I am full of it and it's diesel-powered, this is a non-factor and twin screws would then likely win out.

On the other hand, if it's for a smaller navy anyway gear-cutting might not be that big of an issue.

For what it's worth, a single screw setup isn't all that more expensive to make than a twin setup. It takes longer to build, but the reduction gears and machinery itself tends to be cheaper since they only have to generate and transmit half the power. That's a big part of the reason why so many of the "cheap" post-war mobilization designs failed. Its by no means the only ones, but it's a big part of it.

So...here is a third version,
I redesign the stern in order to be placed one screw...the stern took a V shape.
I aslo add a kind of sonar or Hydrophone place fwd at vessel's bow.
As for the bridge's windows the bellow is not from a preview reconstruction but covers which supposed to be closing
during battle.

Looks good, but you're going to need a more substantial propeller if you're going to retain the same performance.
