But either im stupid or something, but i didnt know they used p-40's in the Egyptian Desert.

Kittyhawks, mostly, flown by Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans if I remember correctly. Quite a robust plane, they were fairly common in the north african campaigns, mostly as light bombers and ground attack.

Yes, the Curtiss series served primarily in North Africa (and of course SE Asia) with the Commonwealth forces, their value being in the role of fighter-bomber: they did not have the agility and speed for Northern Europe. This is the aircraft currently featured in the media; there is an effort being made to rescue it for restoration (before it gets stripped by souveneir hunters). I wasn't aware that the pilot had been found, poor guy :(

I suppose the arid condition of the desert has prevented much corrosion, reminds me about that cache of Spitfires in Burma that they are digging up
