Anyway a "modernized" FAL isn't a bad platform. It's similar to how the US is still using derivatives of the M16. I think NP's FNs have the usual "modern FAL" improvements... aluminum lower receiver, accurized front sight post, improved selector switch, grenade launching sights, type-3 receivers, etc.

It would look awesome.

If you use something like the 7x49mm Liviano or .280 British, the kind of cartridges it was meant to fire, and you get rid of the primary reason why the FAL went out of service with most nations anyway.

It's inferior to just about any other spitzer cartidge in the same weight class out there.

OK well I am not changing the military rifle cartridge just because Wikipedia says it isn't "perfect" - I think by now you should have realized that I'm not going for "the best" when I pick equipment for North Point. The 7.62mm NATO round is used by just about every Western country so it can't be that bad...

Mauser cartridges are why Hitler lost the war tbh.

If he had been using .30-06 he probably would have won. This is proven by the pretty much equal [to .30-06] 7.62x51mm winning all the wars (Six Day War, Congo, Falklands) and 7x57mm losing all the wars (Boers, Rif War, Cuba). The fact that the only people to continue using Mauser rounds post-war were Arabs only reinforces this. I guess if North Point were a country of Back to Back World War Chumps as opposed to Back to Back World War Champs, they'd go ahead and use Mauser cartridges, but they'd end up the same fate as Hitlerites and the other fascists. Broken, beaten, and battered down by NATO with its young, powerful, virile 7.62x51mm which has spawned a thousand children across the world; not unlike the old and decrepit 7x57mm which fought the Boers, the Rifs, and "TR" Roosevelt.

Truly the choice of military rifle cartridge is of such exacting necessity it decides not only the outcomes of wars, but the fates of civilisations.
