Hi,

a fun project of an oddity, that I recently found on the web:
http://s1056.photobucket.com/user/aJax2 ... b.jpg.html

A Diesel engined 15000t "Flugzeugkreuzer" (= "airplaine cruiser") that was supposedly designed for commerce raiding.
It resembles the "Flugdeckkreuzer E V"-design, but has different dimensions. (CWL 172m)

I have no further info on this design except for some dimensions and it's armament.
Neither do I know, if this was an official design planned by the Kriegsmarine, or something sombody just made up.
Hence I am posting this as a "personal design".

If anyone has some further information about the ship, I would really appreciate it!

Displacement:
15000t full load

Armament:
- 8 (4x2) 15cm SK C28 / L55 in MPL C/36 in casemates
- 8 (4x2) 10.5cm SK C33 / L65 in Dopp. L. C/37
- 16 (8x2) 3.7cm SK C30 / L83 in Dopp. L. C/30
- various 2cm MG C38 (source 16x [4x4] - drawing 24x [4x4 + 8x1])

Aircraft:
- 12 Bf 109T-2
- 10 Ju 87D

P.S.:
I wouldn't want to have manned one of the AA-guns on top of the flight deck...

Cheers!

Nice work.

I have the drawing you linked in several forms in my personal archives, but I don't have a direct source. The design also pops up in several tables listing German (hybrid-) carrier designs. According to the description, it was designed for 'mass production' and not commerce raiding (at least not directly in the designation). The designated commerce raider was the the next bigger version, an 18,000t-design.

Anyways, the ship looks great, couldn't have done it better myself.

It's really wierd seeing a Carriers' superstructure on the port side of the vessel. Very different :!:

I really like that concept... but looking at "source material" I don't see that guns in casamates are double... I don't even remember if anyone design a double casamate mount.

Rhade - the Graf Zeppelin was designed with double 5.9" casemates.

Well that's prove that my memory is not always in best shape. ;)

EDIT: a little offtop, this is how Graf looks now.
