I have to ask why you have 5',3' and 30mm (+ light guns I assume added later), - 5' is obviously the best for NGFS etc - 30mm is a CIWS only gun - its the 3' that bothers me, ie it can do the other 2 jobs as well (if maybe badly) So I would cut to 5'/30mm or 5'/3' (or 5'/20mm, or just 3') rather than have 3 types what's the advantage and cost will go up ? |

You could always go for a setup like I did on some of the older Gemstones and have multiple batches. viewtopic.php?p=71#p71 < They should be in there. Depending on your tasking, swap out irrelevant parts of the design? |

Other option could be to use the 3' as CIWS /ASuW role (replacing the 30mm goalkeepers)- 5' is obviously the best for NGFS etc - 30mm is a CIWS only gun - its the 3' that bothers me, ie it can do the other 2 jobs as well (if maybe badly) So I would cut to 5'/30mm or 5'/3' (or 5'/20mm, or just 3') rather than have 3 types what's the advantage and cost will go up ? 1x 5' 3x 3' Adding a missile launcher as CIWS (RAM) could be used to supplementary to the 3' guns. Ram could be fitted below the SMART-L /S1850 radar or aft to the flightdeck like USCG cutters have theire Phalanx placed. Replacing those goalkeepers with 30 / 25 / 20 mm turrets or .50 cals. |

thanks for all the suggestions, it's helps me a lot. I have made some changes to the ship, now there are three versions, with three different armament solution. But with one standard armament and radar setup. One thing I try do focuses on that structure used around the ship should be as similar as possible (When I can do that, when not...), for example the small superstructure the RAM launcher are mounted on above the hangar, is the same structure mounted above the bridge. |

Well I like, Number 2 the most as RAM and 5' cover all tasks well (you might have to add a few stabilized 20-30mm small boat guns to be ideal but the 4 light guns you have will do) I would remove the MK57 112 cells is sufficient for anything, especially if you have quad packing. Number 1 is OK for a ship that doesn't have to do fire support (deep ocean escort AA/ASW ?). Number 3 doesn't really work for me (again 57mm/30mm overlap to much) |

Well. It's a bit crude but I had a quick hack and slash at them to illustrate what I think might work. 127mm or 76mm depending on the batch 96 strike length cells which still gives you an OMGWTFBBQ amount of weapon options Separate AShMs or capacity for them ESM and COMMO tower amidships in a rearranged central plaza (lots of space behind those bulwarks for things) Modified aviation facilities, hangar brought further back (can still take a Chinook as is) and added a flex deck straddling the aft VLS Goalkeepers fore and aft with good clear arcs Lower flex deck as before untouched Slightly lowered upper-works and towers ~Mark. |
