Hello again, recently we've heard about Littoral Combat in naval combat, as well as improvements of SSK capabilities in deep water combat.

So, what I'm challenging my fellow members to do, is to develop a Fleet SSK and Littoral SSK, also know as an SSC in USN jargon, or as I like to call them SSL. Open to all Members, newb and veteran alike. Here are my two contributions, Good luck!

PS. Mine are flagged as UEO vessels, only because I've watched SeaQuest DSV recently, and haven't gotten past the first season, and I can't think of any country that would develop these vessels, that I would even think of flagging them under, personally.

Be original, and above all, Have fun!

Something I drew up very quickly during my lunchbreak. It's a horrible concept kitbash and there are probably several hundred reasons why this wouldn't work...but if there is even a glimmer of possibility here, I may try and work this up into a unique design.

Yes, that is a turbine pod sitting atop an enlarged tailfin...

This might not be the most modern entry but it works none the less.

Will work on the SSC soon TM.

If we are talking about small SSK... Ula class and those Swedish subs. they are the ultimate Diesel subs, until the German 212 can build up the same reputation, like for example Ula class: getting disqualified from naval exercise, due to be to effective in sinking enemy ships. Or an single Ula class manage to sink an aircraft carrier and many of it's escort, without getting detected in an another exercise. Or when you need to send in special forces to any shore... Those damn small Norwegian and Swedish subs!

A Littoral Very Small Sub.

[ img ]

- designed for close range defence
- 4 tubes (reload back at base only)
- very small crew
- short duration missions
- short range (was thinking of being electric + AIP with no conventional diesel would that work ?)
- more like an under water aircraft than a ship, so light it can be lifted out of the water for maintance back at base.

What do you think ?

JSB

edited - My first attempt at a front back top view, hope you don't think its to bad ? and a diagram of the tactics used by this small sub.

Even though missiles are oversized for detail purposes I really don't think harpoon is gonna fit, or make tactical sense in such a small sub. 400mm tubes and torpedoes also may be a better idea than the full sized ones for such a small craft. I could only see two tubes fitting as well, at the very most.
It's a nice drawing but just really really small.

Does harpoon need anything more than a torpedo to work ? is it any bigger ?

My Plan was for the sub to sit close to my shallow shore (Baltic or such) and network with a SOSUS type system to compensate the fact that it doesn't have a very good sonar due to size and crew.

Would 4 tubes be to fat for the front ?

Thanks for the comments, JSB

Cheating a little bit since I'd already had these done, but here are my efforts:
