Post subject: | Light SeaGripen carrier BRP Luzon (CF-2) |
Here is a design for a light aircraft carrier designed to carry the SeaGripen. I originally intended to use the design for my Philippines AU, but after many revisions in the basic design, I think it does not really fit well in that AU's scenario. The design originally started as a 23,000 t STOBAR carrier, but now it is a 32,000 t CATOBAR carrier. length: 250 m beam: 54 m draught: 8.5 m displacement: 32,000 tons max propulsion: Integrated Electric Propulsion with 2 RR MT30 gas turbines , 4 diesel generators and 2 electric propulsion motors speed: 27 knots range: 7,000 nautical miles complement: 900 sensors: Thales Integrated Mast
Seamaster 400 S-band AESA volume search radar APAR X-band AESA multifunction radar Gatekeeper electro-optical surveillance system
Thales Tacticos combat management system communications systems: Integrated Mast SATCOMs and UHF/VHF antennas armament: Mk 41 vertical launching system (16 cells) for 64 Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles 3 Phalanx Block IB CIWS Pintle mounts for M2HB machine guns aircraft carried: 32 aircraft
JAS-39M Sea Gripen EC-1 Matanglawin AEW&C S-70B Seahawk
The Luzon class aircraft carrier is a CATOBAR aircraft carrier intended to replace the older Visayas class aircraft carrier (ex-Centaur Class). The Luzon class has modern features including two electromagnetic catapults, integrated sensor mast, automated munitions handling system and reduced radar and IR signature. The Luzon class embarks an airwing of 20 JAS-39M Sea Gripens, 10 S-70B Seahawks and 2 EC-1 Matanglawin AEW&C aircraft. With a length of 250 meters and a displacement of 32,000 tons, the Luzon class is considered to be in the upper size limit for a light aircraft carrier. |
