If the title is not self-explanatory enough, this is a Roman battleship. The premise is that Rome never fell, and exists today, as a republic. Facing several major, and many minor powers throughout the world, Rome must build four new battleships, with an option for a fifth. The new class is to be named after Romulus, one of the founders of Rome. Joining her are the sister ships Remus, Jupiter and Roma. The ships are armed with 4x3 15 inch guns, 10x3 5 inch DP guns, 14 twin 30 mm autocannons and 8 triple 45mm autocannons. The ships are built for a max speed of 30 kts.

The ships are 269,75 meters long, and 35 meters wide. The draft at normal displacement is 10,67 meters. The ships are built not only for the Mare Nostrum, but also for the Atlantic and from posessions in Asia. Romulus herself is commisoned in 1939, with her four sisterships joining her within 1,5 years. Together, they would form the core of the new battleline with new cruisers and destroyers with only one mission; to dominate all of the worlds oceans.

I like the AU- notion, and I can even envisage contributing to a credible story line, but Karle, why not making it more Italian-style? After all, the Littorios were magnificent looking ships!
Also the camo is too American for my taste, unfortunately.

On a side note, and thus would be only at your discretion, but, considering the civic pride with which Roman citizens embraced their republic, before it was corrupted and then destroyed by various warlords, I'd add the Fasces symbol or maybe the SPQR on the fantail.

Yeah, the roman culture was way into visual symbols and pageantry so some decorative flavor might be appropriate. Granted a modern Roman nation would look very different from its ancient self but still.

(btw. You're sure about anchors being painted partially in one color and partially in the other? )

The reason for me not using the Littorio class as my main inspiration is that it would be too obvious. Italy should not be compared to Rome. Besides, only the aft superstructure, the fore funnel and the front tower, and the secondary arnament layout is inspired by the Iowa. The paint scheme I chose because it looks nice, the upper dark almost black color is inspired by French ships. The color she has now is bacause she is operating in home waters, she was transferred to the Atlantic and recieved a dark gray color. I should probably mention some of the enemies of Rome; the main antagonist is of course Gallia, or France. Germania, Russia, the Arabic empire, Persia, China and Japan are some of the main enemies, and sometimes, hateful allies.

how can gallia be an opponent when there is still mare nostrum, so gallia is part of the roman empire?

Looks nice but the arrangement of the 5" DP guns suggests 10 mountings (5 each side) and not 8 mountings (4 each side). Unless of course, I got it all wrong
