When I was sitting in the Burger King in Bodø waiting for the boat to go home, I had an idea. What if the American navy pulled the plug on the whole LCS program, or designed an alternative to the LCS, more of a normal frigate to replace the Perrys. The design is influenced by several frigates that are either in service, or are to be built. The design itself can also be modified based on need. The RAM-launcher can be replaced with a Phalanx or Sea-RAM. The Bofors 57mm can be replaced with a 5 inch gun, or an OTO Melara 76mm. The Mk. 41 VLS can be changed for a Mk. 57. I am not certain about the SPY-1F that is mounted on the frigate, I`ll leave that one to you guys, is it needed? What is a good, and realistic alternative to the AEGIS? Would an upscaled Sa'ar 5 class be a good basis for a American frigate, considering that the Sa'ar 5 class is an American designed and built ship?

Partially, there is also a bit of the Type 26 in the design. The whole AEGIS setup is actually taken from the KDX-II AEGIS proposal.

I know. Can`t be helped. It`s either that or the setup of the Arleigh Burke or Ticonderoga.

Well, this is something I've noticed a lot of Europeans seem to not grasp about US ships, but most USN ships have sheer forward, and from the Spruances on, have a bulwark.

I have included that on the alternate version that I am making based on the Sa`ar 5.

That said, the Burkes very explicitly borrowed a lot of aspects from other (international) hullforms for superior seakeeping, so a European-style sheerless and bulwarkless forecastle is not unprecedented.

Here is a sneak peek of the second design based on the Sa`ar:
