Would a RAM CIWS work instead of the 40 mm on the hangar? maybe you could replace the 2 .50 cal HMG's on the hangar by 25/27/30 mm auto cannon for the surface part of the 40 mm.

I prefer the added walls over the walls + moving the NSM aft. Maybe just add half of the walls so the aft part with RHIB and replenishment parts are open.

Heuhen, the side view and the top view don't match with respect to the aft director.

old equipment list for Nansen had 12.7 and 20mm. but we also have the seaProtector some are remote controlled.

the reason behind the 40mm is because the old Oslo class and Hauk class had 40mm, so the ammo was there. but coast guard is operating many 56mm guns to...

but CIWS, the low profile of the millenium gun...

walls.
That version I have to try out.

Ok i understand that the 40 mm is to reduce the costs in ammo but your building a '' Maximum'' Nansen class frigate /destroyer.
As the SM-2 is also fictional but posible i think a RAM and some auto cannons are a real good upgrade towards a real heavy frigate or even destroyer.

RAM also works against Surface and helicopters i think it might be a good addition to your ship. But im no expert so...

I may be repeating what has been said by others, but my two comments would be that;

I much prefer the arrangement with the NSM all forward as it means only a single area needs to be repainted each time one fires, and more practically the split arrangement is starting to crowd the boats and being currently involved with a launch & recovery project I'll always push for MOAR SPACE for boat operations.

Glad there's now an extra director - more missiles gets more combat endurance but more directors gets more capability against higher threats.

Regarding small calibre guns, with ESSM fitted anyway I'd prefer to have two guns rather than RAM, if at all possible, to get better coverage close in and more capability against swarming threats.

The standard Fridtjof Nansen class, with added weapons:

[ img ]

Mk-2
Mk-56 replaced by two short Mk-41 VLS
added extra launcher for NSM. now up in 16 NSM launchers!
added third Mark 82 fire-control radar.
[ img ]

Mk-3
added walls, mounted on deck.
[ img ]

Mk-3B
Short wall version
40mm replaced by two millennium guns CIWS, in flank position, taking up space for 20mm machine guns.
[ img ]

Mk-4
bigger Hatch to RHIB bay.
secondary Hatch and overhang, for rep. operation. can also work as an secondary station for RHIB bay operation.

Nice work so far! My Super Dukes have some competition :D

A hybrid of the Mk.2 and Mk.3B would be ideal IMO. A good balance between all the concepts.

thanks. I liked your idea, so I had to play with the Nansen. Oslo class is impossible to do anything with, since when that ship was fully armed with Terne, ESSM, 2Xtwin 3", torpedoes, etc. it was considered as one of the heaviest armed ships compared to size, in that time period (better armed than most corvettes in same size.).

that would be an fifth version.

any suggestion for an sixth version.

wow i love the mk3B!

It's the ultimate norwegian ''Destroyer''

I might have a option for a mk6 :
Remove the aft guidance and build a small ''UAV hagar'' on top like the dutch DMO showed on theire future frigate study you can put 1 guidance back on the hangar.

They fitted a launch / recovery setup on the hangar for Scan Eagle or similar system, could endup for good use in the Fjords.

Note: your antenna is not removed and floats in mid-air on the 3B :)

and yeah do u know what the status is of the fleet tanker Norway is buying from Korea? did they start the construction yet or nothing?

thanks for the idea! and comments.

The fleet tanker. I have to have an look on that. But what I know is that the Navy have signed the contract. and the ship must be delivered the next two-three years. at the moment we have an new spy ship getting equipped somewhere in Norway.
