SS United States has the same propulsion of Iowa Class battleships (240,000hp), therefore her funnels are enormous. Her top speed reported being 42 kn (38 kn is more possible). Atlantic crossing of 1952 (when she won the Blue Flag) had an average speed of about 35.2-35.5 kn, compared with 33kn of the Queen Mary (1936)-still hold for a liner/passenger ship. Personally she is one of my favorite liners, She survives, so your design could be a revival of this elegant liner (extreemely expensive though, but in AU anything can happen). Who knows, perhaps come true.

It's actually more informative to think of her plant as a civilian version of the plant that was to go into the other United States (CVA-58) or the Forrestal (CVA-59). While this is not strictly speaking true, both the CVA designs and the liner significantly benefited from the knowledge that had been gained during the war. As well, the Iowas only produced about 212kshp.
