Does harpoon need anything more than a torpedo to work ? is it any bigger ?

My Plan was for the sub to sit close to my shallow shore (Baltic or such) and network with a SOSUS type system to compensate the fact that it doesn't have a very good sonar due to size and crew.

Would 4 tubes be to fat for the front ?

Thanks for the comments, JSB
Its more that I don't think you could fit the needed systems to find a target thats far away enough and then be able to guide the missile, for harpoon to be worth it.

For that situation why not just stick to torpedoes then, its what most navies in that area primarily used anyways (sub-harpoon is secondary usually). 4 tubes would be pushing it, but if you used the smaller ones two for sure and maybe just maybe three, but that would be pushing it. Two 400mm with a reload per tube might be better.

Reworked design: I've credited Wakazashi for the antennae/periscopes (from the Akula) and MihoshiK for the turbine pod (from the SSGT), but the rest is newly redrawn.

I have updated mine with a more views ( never done top etc before so would love feedback and any comments ?).

I have also added a diagram of the sub using a underwater network to help it attack invading ships with a harpoon.

Careful for what you wish for!

Sorry boys for doing this... more bang for the size, based on perhaps one of the best submarines. except this one is 6 meter bigger and fatter, so it loos over the Ula class, but it compensate in other areas. and have better endurance

An Enlarged and fatter Ula Class SSL

Design based on Ula class, using all the advantage Ula class always had (Ula class can almost compared with an F15, a air superior aircraft... la class sea superior submarine!)
Ula class was designed to go head on and stop or make it as expensive as possible for an Soviet mass fleet. The submarine was designed to go against soviet submarines and surface fleet's, single handed or in wolf packs.

This enlarged version is based upon the design philosophy of Ula class, but now with capability i many more areas, making it an multi-role submarine. it have design characteristics as:

- Capability to fire Submarine variant of Naval strike missiles (currently in development by Kongsberg group IRL)
- Capability to fire two type of torpedoes, but will mainly use Stingray or similar.
- extra large torpedo room, capable to hold up to 10 NSM (depending on load layout) and 24 torpedoes (depending on load layout)
- 8 standard 533 mm torpedo tubes, two large torpedo tubes for firing NSM and large torpedoes, but can fire stingrays by launching the torpedo by an rail system and adding a plastic ring around the torpedo that are mounted to the rail.
- two story Command center with walk-around on both side, all digital, with a classic system in backup.
- small C&C that works more as an intelligence service.
- have it own air-filters if it have to go in an catastrophic area to pick up special forces.
- large two story engine room with AIP.
- extra large battery bank.
- extra large compressed air bank.
- own accommodation for special forces.
- Large fuel capacity
- large main ballast tank, several small ballast tanks. Normally used for crash dive and balancing the submarine.

----------

speed: Surfaced: 14 knots, Submerged: 25 knots, Short sprint speed: 28 knots
Endurance: up to 60 days. Standard operation: 48 days
Complement: 18 - 28, 20 special force
Max Operating depth: 300 meters, test depth at 450 meters.

Armament:
8 x 533 mm torpedo tubes.
- up to 24 Stingray or similar.
- can handle long torpedo tubes.
2 x Enlarged torpedo tubes
- up to 10 NSM.
