It was meant to replace the Knox, and take the stress off of the need for OHPs. (Also I hate the OHP missile primary armament).

Ace, I need visual cues, I don't know what I copied from your OHPs to my vessel, so that is part of the problem. Please, I learn better by being shown something not told, thanks!

about the WM: the egg is indeed made up of 2 parts: an targeting radar (below) and an director(top). the targeting radar can do some guidance for both the missile and the gun, but for perfect accuracy you need the director.

on old and new perry:

funnel, hangar, midships section are all from the old, at least. other then that it is all details..... like the prearie masker and all

ow, btw, don't forget to remove the missile reload UNREP gear at the top- back of the hangar ;)

  1. ASROC on the Knox class loaded from behind, just like on the Californias (where there was a deckhouse that they loaded from). The only ships where they loaded from bellow was the Spruances, where the magazine took up the same space as the Mod 0/3 Mk 26, which I have colored in here for good measure. The 76mm also needs magazine space, which I have also colored in (roughly - I didn't give it much). Your big bow sonar is also going to have plenty of space above it for electronics and other parts. In short, you've got a cramped bow.
  2. The Two sections that are outlined are the versions of Prairie Masker that Erik and Ace drew (I copied Erik's work). Your version ends at the waterline.
  3. You see that big blue box? That's my least-bad guess for the boilers on this puppy. The boilers would then drive steam turbines (directly aft) that would take up even more room.
  4. This is the size of your Gas Turbines. They too take up volume all the way up thanks to the large air requirements both in and out.
    • Something to keep in mind is that Steam plants are slow to start (the phrase 'Raising steam' was used when ship were preparing to sortie because they had to get the steam pressure up to run the boilers.
    • Steam Plants take a lot of people - even in the 70s. Turbines don't, and that reduction in manning is one of the main reasons (along with the near-instant start-up time) that they have been switched to over the past 40 years.
    • As an aside, you've got 42% more power than a Perry (half of a Knox plant plus a full Perry plant).
  5. The SPS-49 has to rotate, and has depth that is going to get way to close to the mast. It's hard to see here, but it's still way, way to close.
Unnumbered:
  • The WM-series egg can do missile guidance, but it's a secondary thing. The mount is designed to be one part search, the other part track. Where you have it now is not good for missile guidance, and that's a bit problematic.
  • SLQ-32V1 or V2 is the most this ship is going to be launched with. You've got the old V3+, and the new versions are in the USN parts thread.
  • The Helo should be landed.

I'll just ad that Tims drawing assumes the minimum installation for the OTO. That means the only shells you carry are the ones you can fit in the drum. AFAIK, nobody has ever built a warship with such an installation, so you'll probably want to set aside at least twice as much space for ammo storage and a reloading room. More still if you want a deep magazine.

Better, but you still have the steam mack - you will want to use a lattice mast instead, and you used the wrong SLQ-32. Use the one in this post right here. Not the one three posts above, the one I am linking to that I made.

only 3 real remarks left:
- COSAG propulsion, but you still have the gas turbines the same as the perry.... so isn't it COGAG?
- mk 95 director is the old version, IIRC, and while you are at it, so is the WM (look at my perry, it is slightly different, if you cannot cut it off the perry it is on the dutch parts sheet (USN one not yet updated)
- the missile reload gear on the hangar is still there

other then that, it is still cramped but right now it MIGHT work.

I'm still wondering where you're going to fit all those people. Compared to the Perry you have a larger crew on a smaller hull and you have more equipment taking up what little volume you have available. And it's not as if the Perrys weren't cramped enough to begin with.

Okay Edited again and this time with the 1982 modernization. FYI, Tim, I dislike lattice masts, and will be keeping the "mack" style mast.

one small note: the mk 29 was not fitted on the spruances from the beginning.... so you might want that one also 'only in the update'
