I hope David Latuch will forgive me  but I could not resist a 1930s rebuild even more so than the Italians !

Still working on the side view any comments about anything really bad that needs working on ? (apart from the fact that large blocks have been nicked from other ships ;) )

That's the refit to end all refits. Italian job meets the Japanese way
It might be crazy, but I want to see the final results

I'm looking forward to this, Normandie is possibly my favourite never-were!

Based on the lengthened hull I'm guessing all new boilers and engines? Probably going to gain a few knots! Any improvement to protection?

I thinks its safe to say yes with giving the game away
(originally it had 2x shaft triple expansion engines, 2xshaft turbines with 21 or 28 coal-fired boilers. I'm fitting 4x geared turbines with fully oil fired for at least 3 times the power)

Probably not much but at least a bit added to the magazines deck and bulges for a better TDS.

I doubt they would get rid of center turret. It's 1/3 of all ship main armament! Italians replaced the center turret, yes, but on their battleships it represented only a 23% of main armament, not 33,3%.

Still, great work!

My thinking was 8 guns was OK v a 10 gun Italian (rebuilds) or a 6 gun German (pocket BBs) and that speed (and better deck and DP guns) would be much more useful as she will anyway not be useful v a slow strong battleship anyway.

Note she is not that serious and would only make sense in a treaty limited world where MN had to counter the Italians and Germans (and maybe IJN Kongo's) without new builds.

ed should look facts up before writing

Still think in early 1930 the threats to the MN are a pocket battleship (6 x 11') or later Scharnhorst (9x11') or a rebuild Conte di Cavours /Andrea Doria (10 x 12.6') both would be matched by 8 x 13.4'. But they would need more than 21Kn (to catch a raider with 27 or 28Kn or 31Kn) so swapping out the turret should allow us a good 31Kn.

Italian rebuilt battleship still had 10 Guns (2x3+2x2) and germans are pocket battleship (almost upgunned heavy cruiser).
Removing the central turret to increase power plant make sense to me, but the japanese managed to do double the power on fuso without removing any of its six main turrets......
