Well, I will start out by saying that the FTL system that does this uses subspace, which is still not well understood.

Subspace has a different set of laws, so there is no limit on how fast a message or object can go, etc. There are phantoms of every gravity well in the universe present in subspace, which can be dangerous to ships navigating. Every message ever sent through subspace exists in subspace in every locations in every time, which is not good for anyone who leaves the comms system online.

Not to mention that it is a completely different dimension from the one where everything lives in, so it is harmful in that respect as well.

I should also point out that the empire that had the most advanced science and theories on subspace is gone and their knowledge lost.

You know that you can edit your post rather than double posting, right?

I still don't get it. I'd need to know more information about the universe as a whole before I could understand exactly what you're trying to say. But, basically, the closest I can picture your 'subspace' world is like the Warp from Warhammer 40k.

Huh. Y'know I considered using something similar for my stories, but without the chaos entities. It's certainly an interesting way to travel, considering the currents and eddies that can either lessen or increase your travel time relative to the normal space.
