The final new design of the decade was the most numerous. Four Lampasas Class Corvettes were ordered and two completed before 1890. The remaining two were commissioned a year later.

They were longer on the waterline than previous corvette designs, but maintained the standard 30 foot beam and 12 foot draft. The increased hull length allowed for slightly greater speed than their predecessors.

She carried a pair of 6 inch guns that became standard and new 5 inch guns. Their performance was nearly identical, which would later lead to armament changes in later refits. They also had the 6 pounder quick firing guns for defense against fast boats.

Like her cousins, she could cruise under steam at 14 knots and maintained the standard 1660 mile range at 7 knots. Full sail added more speed for a maximum of 18 knots.

Refits and Rebuilds

The two Independence Class frigates were re-armed and re-engined in 1886 and 1887:

They received the new 8 inch and 6 inch guns, but were unable to take the 6 pounders for fast boat defense. Their overall appearance did not change very much.

The Texas Army remained largely unchanged in organization and armament, except for the adoption of a 3.2 inch field gun to replace the Armstrongs fielded in the 1860s.

Shown is the armament provided for a Field Artillery Battery: four sections with guns and caissons and a battery wagon with a mobile forge.

Excellent additions, all these ships look great and life-like and the AU as a whole feels very complete and well organised.
This is one of my favourite AUs at the moment for all of these reasons.

I would say that on my side it is a champion because it don't create new fictional land masses, it base on existing land with seriously existing possibility. It's realistic!

A glimpse of the Texas Navy, as it looked between 1880 and 1889:

Awesome work!
It is (and always has been, including previous version) one of the best AU's there.

Just one nit-pick:
I don't think there could be something like "Unitary Federal Republic" - I believe state can be either unitary or federal, but not both at the same time. ;)
